About The Downtown Sampler
Growing up in a family of 12, we were always cooking. Being the third child, I was in the kitchen at an early age. I don't ever recall Mom criticizing so the love of cooking and creating dishes flourished.
At 15 I started as a server at a restaurant a mile from my home. I soon realized that I loved getting to know my customers as well as giving great service. People who start as customers & now are friends is what it is all about.
A great kitchen crew is the key to maintaining a high level of consistency! The kitchen staff is family and Mike (my son) has been here since we opened in 1996.
We strive to earn your support by giving you a great meal with great service for a great price.

Having a morning appointment in Hutchinson we stopped by for an early lunch and to visit our friend Eileen. We were pleasantly greeted, seated, given menus and had water quickly delivered. Our server highlighted menu items we may enjoy (all of which left a positive impression) plus Eileen stopped by to visit and also shared her thoughts concerning the special of the day and other items of interest. I chose the Rueben sandwich (Lots of tender corned beef...see photo) with salad while my wife ordered the Compuesto. Both meals were displayed exquisitely! We savored the flavors and enjoyed every bite! We were so pleased we finally had finally taken the opportunity to visit and eat at the Downtown Sampler! No doubt a hidden gem in not only Hutchinson but Kansas. We will gladly make a special trip to Hutchinson when time allows for us to eat here. -Railsback

We love this restaurant! The white tablecloths make eating there very special. I often choose the grilled chicken and veggies. The large windows overlooking downtown Hutchinson make for a wonderful atmosphere! -AnitainHutch

This restaurant is on the second floor of the downtown bank. So you might miss it if you did not know where to find it. But the service was excellent, the food variety was good, and reasonably priced. The tator tots were cooked perfectly. -Don D.
